Exploring Provincetown’s history and culture
through the timeless wisdom of the Tarot.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The tarot has existed for centuries as an esoteric tool for guidance, introspection, and storytelling. At its core lies the symbolic journey of the Fool towards enlightenment (a narrative that mirrors my own evolution throughout this project). Initially conceived during the pandemic, the Provincetown Tarot Project began as an attempt to deepen my understanding of the 78 cards themselves. It soon blossomed into a profound exploration of Provincetown’s diverse and varied character, deepening my relationship to this dynamic place.
In correlating Ptown archetypes with those of the tarot, I began with two master lists: one of Provincetown imagery taken from history, culture, and daily life, and another that included each tarot card’s traditional qualities. As I drew parallel associations between the two, the deck quickly took shape.
Provincetown teems with its own rich iconography, imagery that has inspired generations of artists, seekers, and Fools. What I aim to accomplish through the Provincetown Tarot Project is nothing less than a sprawling 78-sided portrayal of this place through a timeless archetypal lens, a bridge that spans the mystical realm of the tarot and the singular character of Provincetown.
